Nancy Heuser of Orland District 135 was named the 2026 Illinois Art Education Association Elementary Educator of the Year. Nearly 30 years in the classroom. Her motto: "You can never make a mistake in art, it is how your brain grows."
🦺 New Lenox CERT Accepting Volunteers for Fall Training

Every Massive Change Coming to Chicago in 2026
Biggest train expansion in decades, a soccer stadium, and a $1.7 billion casino, all in the same year. I broke it all down on the channel this week.
Here's what you need to know:
Red Line extension broke ground. 5.5 miles of new track from 95th to 130th Street. Federal funding locked in, construction underway. Communities along the extension are early-stage plays right now, that changes fast once the line opens
The 78 just got its anchor. Chicago Fire FC broke ground on a $750M soccer stadium between the South Loop and Chinatown. The stadium is the catalyst that unlocks the rest of the 62-acre site. South Loop and Bridgeport both benefit
Casino timeline shifted. Bally's Chicago at River West pushed full resort completion to 2028. Temporary casino is operating but 3,000 permanent jobs and $1 billion in tax revenue are still ahead
Fulton Market keeps building. Google moved into the Thompson Center. The neighborhood that transformed a decade ago is still not done

$390K in Oak Brook or $390K in New Lenox?
A $390,000 budget can put you in two very different situations depending on which direction you go.
In Oak Brook, you’re buying into one of the western suburbs’ most established locations, with easy access to major highways, Oakbrook Center, restaurants, and a much shorter trip into the city. But at this price point, your options are much tighter. You’re more likely looking at a condo or townhome, with less square footage, shared amenities, and potentially a monthly HOA.
In New Lenox, that same $390K stretches a lot further. Three bedrooms, a finished basement, a private yard, a garage, and Metra access are all realistic. You’ve also got the Old Plank Road Trail nearby, continued new construction, and major investment happening around the Wintrust Crossroads Sports Complex.
There’s also the tax conversation. New Lenox is in Will County, while Oak Brook properties can fall within DuPage or Cook County depending on location, so the carrying costs can look very different from one property to the next.
Same budget. Very different life.
If you want location, convenience, and proximity to everything, Oak Brook has a strong case.
If you want more house, more land, and more breathing room for the money, New Lenox is hard to ignore.
