🏃 6th Annual Jog for Jackson 5K Returned to Manhattan

Last weekend at Round Barn Farm Park, funds were raised for youth suicide prevention programs. Five $1,000 scholarships awarded to Lincoln-Way West seniors this year.

🎓 Frankfort Student Heads to Northwestern After Earning Salutatorian Honor

Varun Paluri graduated salutatorian from Morgan Park Academy. All-conference in basketball and baseball, launched a student-run coffee business on campus. Northwestern pre-med this fall. South burbs showing up.

🦟 Will County’s First West Nile-Positive Mosquitoes Found in Mokena

Will County health officials recently confirmed that the first mosquitoes to test positive for West Nile virus this year were collected in Mokena. A good reminder to empty standing water around the yard and break out the bug spray before spending the evening outside.

This one is an oldie-ish, but still a goodie, especially if you’re trying to narrow down where to live in the Chicago suburbs.

The biggest mistake buyers make is choosing a house before choosing the lifestyle they actually want. A great kitchen will not fix a brutal commute, the wrong school district, or a suburb that gives you nothing to do once you leave the driveway.

🎤 County Fair Night & Karaoke at The Bridge (Orland Park)

Hay bale cow roping, pig races, carnival challenges, karaoke, and popcorn from Meijer, all inside The Bridge Teen Center Friday night.

Free drop-in for teens grades 7-12 with a Bridge membership.

🎸 Concerts on the Green: Rosie and the Rivets (Frankfort)

Sunday evening at Breidert Green in Historic Downtown Frankfort. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic. Free admission.

August means one thing for families: school starts soon.

And if you're still figuring out where to plant roots in the Chicago area, the school district question is usually where the conversation starts.

In Tinley Park, you’re paying for convenience. You’re closer to established shopping, restaurants, Metra access, and the amenities that come with a larger, more built-out suburb. At $500K, you can still find a solid single-family home, but you may be trading some lot size, square footage, or newer finishes for the location. School options vary by neighborhood, since Tinley Park is served by multiple districts, so the specific school assignment can play a major role in your experience here.

In New Lenox, the school story is strong too. Lincoln-Way West and Lincoln-Way Central both carry top-tier state designations. And $500,000 here can stretch further: three bedrooms, a finished basement, heated garage, real backyard, and more room to settle in. The Wintrust Crossroads Sports Complex is already bringing new investment to the area, and the infrastructure keeps growing with it.

Strong schools in both markets. One costs you the whole budget to get a foothold. The other lets you actually live in the home you bought.
